Airform Inflatable architecture AIRFORM 01 is een opblaasbare structuur die is ontwikkeld als vormstudie voor een architectuurproject. Het doel was te bekijken in hoeverre inflatable modellen vorm en stabiliteit kunnen geven bij het bouwen van 'thin shell structures'. De huid van AIRFORM 01 is opgebouwd uit nylon delen, aan elkaar genaaid in een zich regelmatig herhalend patroon. De doorlopende structuur is aan de uiteinden van het object afgekapt en dichtgemaakt met een transparant membraan. De zo begrensde ruimte wordt opgeblazen waardoor een rigide structuur ontstaat. De opblaasmallen worden gebruikt bij het bouwen van 'thin shell structures' van spuitbeton. In de onderstaande afbeeldingen laten we de ontstaansgeschiedenis zien van een 'airvilla', een organisch gevormde villa die geprojecteerd is in Andalusië, Spanje en waarvan de basis wordt gevormd door een airform in de vorm van een bloem. Door lucht te gebruiken als constructief element is het mogelijk grote toegankelijke objecten te maken, zonder zware constructiematerialen. Bij de eerste optie wordt de lucht in een dubbelwandige muur geblazen en kan het object zonder sluis of bodem opgeblazen worden. ruimtelijke vorm opgeblazen d.m.v. een sluis wordt afgesloten van de omgeving. enkelwandige inflatable toegankelijk worden gemaakt. drukverschil tussen binnen en buiten is minimaal en niet hinderlijk voor mensen in de inflatable.
